The defence recruitment of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) covers three military fields: the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air force.
Defence recruitment has a very thorough process with regard to qualifications. You would first have to make a booking with the defence recruitment office by either calling their office or applying online. Another option for defence recruitment is by visiting 1 of 16 different defence recruitment offices, known better as the Defence Force Recruiting Centres (DFRC) spread out across the country.
After successfully enlisting with the defence recruitment office, you would be taking a series of interviews with regard to your health and your career path. This is followed by another interview regarding your qualifications. Pilots would have a flight screening program. For those who wish to become officers, defence recruitment will conduct another set of interviews.
Finally, you would undergo a physical fitness assessment; defence recruitment would ask you to perform three different physical tests: push-ups, sit-ups, and shuttle runs. After these tests, all you have to do is wait if you have passed the defence recruitment process. If your application with the defence recruitment is successful, you will be sent joining instructions for the service that you have been accepted by the defence recruitment office.
There are a lot of factors that influence the outcome of your application. First, age, citizenship and physical fitness would be checked initially by the Defence Recruitment office. Requirements may differ from department to department. Basically, you have to be at least 17 years and 6 months of age to apply. You can also apply if you are above 50 years old. However, there are certain parameters that one must need to qualify for the recruitment age.
Regarding citizenship, the general requirement is that you must be either a citizen of Australia or have permanent residency status in Australia. If you cannot fulfill this requirement, you can still apply for a position in the ADF if the Defence Recruitment acknowledges that you had previous military experience. Even when you are already a part of the ADF, you are still required to have certain characteristics such as command and discipline, unrestricted service, military and trade skills, and minimal or no body piercings and tattoos.
Defence recruitment serves as the face of ADF for aspiring members. Defence recruitment can provide you with everything you need to know about this profession - from brochures, CDs and handbooks to a detailed and categorized frequently asked questions (FAQs) page.
